Me, My Husband, Some Other Diners & Their Dogs…

How silly of me to envision a romantic outdoor anniversary dinner. I should have known better. I mean, I am one of those many many people who put significant effort (it took me months & I filled out over a dozen applications) into successfully adopting a little pandemic pooch rescue. So I get it. But I’m also one of those people who works hard to remind myself that my dog is, well, a dog. And although I enjoy his company a great deal, I value my space — especially on my anniversary. Three’s a crowd, as odd as that sounds these days.

So I must admit that I oscillated between amusement and consternation regarding the fact that there were almost as many dogs as there were people when we arrived at the cozy corner restaurant with its charming hanging lights and outdoor plants and delicately draped awnings. My poor husband almost tripped over a dog bowl that had been left just under the table that had been reserved for us. A waitress hurried over to scoop it up. And me, I had to say something of course: “Oh? I didn’t know dogs were allowed?” And her almost too-cheery smiling response was: “Of course, your dogs can certainly join in next time!” Whoa. Whoa. Slow down now. First off: who said anything about multiple canines? And second: the last thing I would want as I am trying to enjoy dining out is my beloved pup…
